That was a disappointing answer. There was so much she missed out on by being little, it seemed. “I wanna grow up soon so I can be smart and know everything just like Mamann!”
“Now now, there’s no need to grow up too fast. You’ll have more than enough time to learn everything. I’ll make sure of that.” Even if there are some things he’d rather her not know.
“Waaa~ You are so nice Mamannn! I love you lots!” she exclaimed, bouncing happily in his lap. She’d only just met him, but already he was offering to teach her to read! She wanted to learn so badly, too! “Well, I can spell my name! And I know how to write ‘kitty’. Cause I love kitties!”
This little one really is adorable. “Well what a coincidence, I like them too.” Haise said while reaching over and retrieving some empty paper and pens to write with. “It’s great that you already know those words, how about I teach you a few more easy ones before we really get started?”
“Oh. Well… um… I’m at a foster home and they didn’t take me to school, Mamann,” she said, looking a bit sad. She perked up at his suggestion, though, smiling up at him. “Waa~ Really? I’d love that a lot a lot!”
A foster home, huh.. He didn’t have much experience with homes like that (at least that he could remember) but nothing that he’d ever heard had been on the particularly good side of things. Haise pushed away that train of thought for the moment, focusing on the excited child smiling up at him. “Yep, really. I’d be glad to teach you.” Haise replied. “So, can you tell me if you know anything about reading or writing already? That way I know where to start.”
